When there is spine disc herniation, the herniated disc cause compression over the root ( Nerve ). This causes excruciating pain and the patient can not walk due to that pain. Some people who have long-standing compression over the root will call weakness in the limb and loss of sensation. The surgery is designed in a way to remove only the herniated part of the disc and not the normal disc. If there is the removal of the whole disc, there is a requirement for an artificial disc. We usually remove only diseased disc which is herniated part and try to preserve the normal disc. The surgery is done in multiple ways depending on the severity of root compression. The lesser incision, the lesser the time of recovery. We assure 95 per cent pain relief after surgery. The options for the surgery can be discussed with Dr.Siddharth Mistry.
